Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
Business Name: Vita Domi (Yorks)
Financial Year: Ending April 2026
1. Introduction
This statement is made voluntarily by Vita Domi (Yorks) to demonstrate our commitment to ethical trading and the protection of human rights. Although we are below the turnover threshold specified in Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, we consider modern slavery and human trafficking to be grave violations of human rights. We maintain a zero-tolerance approach to such abuses within our own operations and our supply chain.
2. Our Organisation
Vita Domi (Yorks) is a provider of home support, companionship, and property maintenance services in the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Yorkshire.
- Our Business: We provide direct support to elderly and vulnerable clients in their own homes, alongside gardening and handyman services.
- Our Staff: We employ a small team of community support staff and utilize a network of trusted subcontractors for specialist property maintenance tasks.
3. Our Supply Chain
Our supply chain is local and concise, which allows us to maintain high levels of oversight. Our key supply chain areas include:
- Subcontracted tradespeople (Handymen, Gardeners, Maintenance specialists).
- Suppliers of workwear and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Suppliers of gardening equipment and machinery.
- Local recruitment sources.
4. Policies on Slavery and Human Trafficking
We have implemented specific policies to ensure that modern slavery is not taking place in any part of our business. These include:
- Safeguarding Adults Policy: Our staff are trained to recognise the signs of modern slavery (e.g., forced labour, domestic servitude) as a category of abuse. Our policy explicitly instructs staff on how to report these concerns to the Local Authority.
- Whistleblowing Policy: We encourage all staff and subcontractors to report any concerns about management or unethical practices without fear of reprisal.
- Safe Recruitment Policy: We conduct rigorous checks on all staff, including “Right to Work in the UK” verification and Enhanced DBS checks, to ensure no individual is being forced to work against their will or is subject to exploitation.
5. Due Diligence Processes
To ensure our zero-tolerance approach is effective, we undertake the following due diligence:
- Subcontractor Vetting: We do not use anonymous or casual labour markets. All subcontractors (e.g., handymen) are personally vetted by the Proprietor. We require proof of identity, insurance, and (where applicable) DBS checks before they are permitted to enter a client’s property.
- Fair Pay: We are committed to paying all employees at or above the National Living Wage. We do not deduct money from wages for uniforms or training in a way that would drop earnings below the legal minimum, reducing the risk of debt bondage.
- Client Awareness: Our staff are trained to spot if a client is becoming a victim of modern slavery (e.g., “cuckooing,” where a gang takes over a vulnerable person’s home).
6. Training
To ensure a high level of understanding of the risks of modern slavery:
- All new staff receive induction training that covers the Safeguarding Adults procedures, which includes the definition and indicators of modern slavery.
- The Proprietor (Diana Page) commits to staying updated on the latest guidance from the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) regarding the care and manual labour sectors.
7. Approval
